Itinerary Tarifas y Fechas Extensiones + Info

This route is pure adventure and perfectly combines the visit of natural parks with the discovery of the main ethnic groups of the south and west of the island.

Listen to the emotional cry of the Indri in the Andasibe rainforest; travel the vertiginous via ferrata in the Tsingy de Bemaraha; cross the rainforests of the eastern corridor, land of Tanalas, on the Jungle Train; learn about the close relationship between man and the sea in the Vezo-Sakalava village of Betania; ascend Mount Chameleon and enjoy a spectacular view of the Andringitra massif; stroll along the iconic Avenue of the Baobabs or enter the canyons of Isalo National Park are some of the experiences you will live during this route.

You can share agricultural tasks in Manandona, the Vakinkaratra region known as the “garden” of Madagascar; walk on immense granite stones in search of ring-tailed lemurs in the Anja Reserve or in the Ranomafana rainforest in search of the Propithecus Edwarsii, pure nature declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

And nothing better than ending this adventure than on one of the beaches proposed as an extension: Ifaty, Ankilibe, Manambo or Anakao.

From the village of Manandona we will walk for approximately one hour through a landscape of rice paddies to learn about the agricultural culture and daily tasks of its inhabitants: we will be able to share their daily tasks, visit a traditional house, inquire about their “fady” and perhaps, if magic operates, enjoy an improvised musical work. Along the way we will observe the summit of Mount Ibity, the third highest mountain on the island with 2,345m, a waterfall and a natural pool where we can take a bath (in our austral summer). Return to our vehicles that will take us back to Antsirabe. After lunch tour in Pousse-Pousse (similar to the rickshaws of India) to tour the historic center of the city. Visit of the Atsena Kely (small market) the Cathedral of Notre Dame de la Salette, Train Station, Ethnic Monument, as well as the countless buildings of the French colonial era such as the decadent Hotel des Thermes, where King Mohammed V stayed in his exile in 1953.

We will embark on a traditional pirogue to navigate the Manambolo River to the natural entrance to the Manambolo Be circuit, which will take us after a steep climb on foot to the top of the tsingys from where we will obtain a spectacular view over the river and the national park. We will return navigating the gorges of the Manambolo River and its imposing cliffs. We will stop in two grottoes, one of them with beautiful formations of stalactites and stalagmites. We can also observe on a vertical wall an ancient vazimba tomb, the first settlers of the island. Lunch in a popular restaurant and in the afternoon visit of the “small” Tsingy de Bemaraha. This visit will serve to test our physical form and our reaction to heights and narrow passages. A magnificent preamble to tomorrow’s stage. Return to the lodge.

DAY 9

TSINGY DE BEMARAHA NATIONAL PARK

Today holds an extraordinary discovery for us. After breakfast and provided with our harnesses, we will move in 4×4 to the natural entrance to the “Gran Tsingy de Bemaraha”, where the visit of these unique karst formations will begin. The only ones in the world that have the necessary characteristics to be equipped with a via ferrata that allows the ascent to the top. We will carry out the Andamozavaky circuit of ± 4h duration (medium difficulty), in which we cross various labyrinths and grottoes, as well as gorges and suspension bridges. After the free picnic lunch, we will carry out another of the most spectacular circuits of the park, the Ranotsara of ±2h duration (medium difficulty), where giant calcareous cathedrals, deep cracks and a new suspension bridge will take us to the top of the tsingys. It is a via ferrata in which we will walk throughout the route secured by harnesses. After sunset return to the lodge.

IMPORTANT HOTEL INFORMATION

On our adventure routes and expeditions we offer variety in accommodation, in some locations it may be a 4* hotel, in others 3*, in others without stars and even a day of camping. Instead of restricting our itineraries to areas that offer standard accommodation, we prefer to stay in more basic and spartan infrastructures to enjoy an exceptional location. The accommodations we offer on our expeditions are not selected because they have Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a swimming pool or a television in the rooms; for our philosophy on adventure trips, that is not the most important thing. Our goal is to reach the most authentic, pristine and spectacular places. Enjoy these experiences, they are part of the trip.

CHARACTERISTICS OF OUR TRIPS

Our trips are designed from knowledge, we have been residents on the island for more than 18 years (2006-2024) and our team makes more than 17 annual surveys throughout the geography of the island, to verify on the ground the state of parks, tracks, hotels, novelties and discover new treasures that still, to this day, remain hidden in our island-continent and that for the moment we try to preserve until there is an environmental protection policy. Our update is practically daily.

Any circuit in Madagascar leaves room for the unexpected, hence we ask for your flexibility when facing the trip, as travelers and not as conventional tourists.

To participate in our trips, a minimum physical shape is necessary, otherwise you will not enjoy the parks, landscapes, or some of the animist villages furthest from the conventional routes.

Our adventure trips are not for all audiences, they are participatory trips, in which you will not be made to row or wash your cutlery, for this we employ the local population, however, we want your passage through the island to cause the least possible impact, neither environmental nor social, that is where we ask for your collaboration.

The hotels are varied, from some 5 * to simple lodges, depending on the hotel infrastructure. Adventure is not at odds with comfort, we will never camp (free camping is prohibited in Madagascar, it is only possible in “authorized” places although they do not have any infrastructure similar to a campsite, neither toilets nor showers) if right next door we have a minimally correct accommodation and from which our passage can benefit the local population. We always try to include the best available hotels, but on some occasions we are forced to use simple lodges because the location does not have more hotel infrastructure or because it is in an exceptional place that is well worth the stay.

Madagascar does not have a tourist infrastructure like neighboring countries in their safaris, but that gives it the charm of a virgin and uncrowded country (150,000 tourists a year). We ask our travelers for an open mind and great doses of patience. That way they will enjoy their trip much more.
